That’s what they said about Dunder Mifflin’s dark horse!

Summary:

  • There is a fan theory that implies the horrifying background of the series’ Creed Bratton, who is quite loved by The Office ’s fandom despite his small appearance.
  • It’s based on his unexpected confession in the fourth season of the show.

In spite of almost two decades having passed since the release of the first episode, The Office’s legacy still lives on in the hearts of its fans, who still discuss the sitcom’s hilarious characters and the hidden details giving much insight on them.

Among them there’s obviously the series’ most mysterious onscreen employee, whose charismatic nature makes the fandom love him a lot despite his relatively small screen time. You can already guess that we’re talking about Creed Bratton, the fictionalized version of the actor of the same name and Scranton’s most experienced worker.

Creed’s background is partially revealed by one-off liners delivered by him, but one scene brings more understanding of his past that can both amaze and horrify you.

Redditor @DAS_FUN_POLICE suggested a theory that implies that the fandom’s pet was a member of America’s most famous cult organization, The Manson Family. It was a hippie group who lived an unconventional lifestyle, using psychoactive drugs, and believed in their power to judge people and to end the lives of the unwanted ones.

This assumption can be justified by the scene from the sitcom’s Episode 2 of Season 4, Dunder Mifflin Infinity, where Creed initially admits he was involved in a number of cults before working at the paper company.

Later, speaking to Ed Helms’ Andy, he gives him relationship advice, telling him about the way he “got Squeaky Fromme”.

It turns out that it’s the name of one of the most notorious members of the Manson Family and the close friend of Charles Manson too. She was the one who attempted to assassinate the U.S. President Gerald Ford and was sentenced to life in prison for it.

There is, surprisingly, another proof adding to the theory.

“This makes so much sense. Also the fact that he stole military grade lsd in the 60s makes him fit into the Manson family dynamic so well,” admits Redditor @slimjenny.

Funnily, it’s really believable in the case of this character, given his personality full of mysteries.

“Oddly enough, this really doesn't change his character in the slightest,” as joked by another Redditor. Indeed, it fits Creed’s potential background well enough.

You can revise the sitcom remembering that Creed might have such a past, as The Office is available for streaming on Netflix and Peacock .
