If the massive door gets opened in Season 2, the entire Wasteland is screwed.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the Fallout franchise or a new viewer that joined the club after watching Prime Video ’s TV show, you’re well-aware that Vault-Tec Vaults were much more than just a way to save human civilization in case of a global nuclear war — they were controlled grounds for experiments on humans.

But while some of those experiments were reasonably tame, others were downright monstrous… And one particular Vault can prove devastating in Fallout Season 2.

Lucy MacLean Loves Herself a Good Vault

One of Fallout’s main characters, Lucy MacLean has been a certified Vault Dweller for her entire life — until the moment she bravely ventured outside to find her father. Like most of her fellow Vault Dwellers, she had no idea about Vault-Tec’s experiments, and in her eyes, Vaults remained safe and picture-perfect places.

She did learn some portion of the truth in Vault 4, but largely, she’s yet to discover the true depth of Vault-Tec’s depravities, and there’s a good chance that the next time she stumbles upon a Vault, her curiosity will once again lead her toward it; since she’s now traveling with the Ghoul, he’ll most likely come with her.

Except that not all Vaults should ever be unsealed — and as the protagonists are approaching New Vegas, there’s one particular Vault they definitely must not touch.

Vault 22 Can Turn Fallout Into The Last of Us

Some Vault experiments are relatively harmless; others threaten the health and mentality of their inhabitants; others yet are a legitimate menace to life outside of them. Vault 22 belongs to the latter group, and it shouldn’t be opened by anyone.

In Fallout: New Vegas, players get to discover Vault 22’s dark secrets. It was designed as a “green Vault” but with a twist: one of the shipments it received contained some sort of zombie fungi that, by spreading its spores through air and water, led the Vault Dwellers to die and get turned into mindless fungi zombies.

If Lucy and the Ghoul stumble upon Vault 22 and open it, they’ll have to either destroy all the zombies and the fungi… Or let out the deadly virus, unleashing a zombie apocalypse upon the Wasteland and turning Fallout into The Last of Us.
