1. The Night Of (2016)

First comes the series, created by Steven Zaillian, who gained much recognition with the recent success of Andrew Scott ’s Ripley. The eight-part crime drama miniseries follows a college student Naz, who wakes up after a night of partying to find his one-night stand girl stabbed to death, later becoming accused of her murder.

2. The Fall (2013 - 2016)

The 17-episode series features a strong-willed detective Stella Gibson, played by the brilliant Gillian Anderson, on her way to solve the case of a serial killer, who turns out to be the unexpectedly soft and loving husband and father Paul (Jamie Dornan). He starts to play the mind games with Gibson, while other obstacles also get in the way of justice.

3. The Crowded Room (2023)

Tom Holland-starring psychological miniseries is set in 1979 and follows the arrest of a young man, involved in a New York City shooting. His interrogations, conducted by Amanda Seyfried’s detective, definitely give the vibes of The Minds of Billy Milligan and The Silence of the Lambs, added by outstanding acting performances.

4. Mindhunter ( 2017-2019)

Satisfying the audience’s love for both true crime and psychology, this show features FBI agents who launch a research project to interview serial killers to understand their bloody motives deeper. Based on the 1995 true-crime book, it lasts only 19 episodes, and you will regret it wasn’t prolonged as it’s a solid example of a nail-biting thriller.

5. Black Bird ( 2022)

Inspired by a memoir involving a real-life serial killer, this six-episode series follows Jimmy Keene (played by Taron Egerton ), a murderer who, being imprisoned for 10 years, receives a tempting offer. He is assured to be free if he can get fellow inmate to confess to the murders, and this synopsis promises one of the craziest twist-filled stories ever.
